When I got the phone call from Gabriel Ash to cover their Show Garden build at RHS Tatton Park I jumped at the chance. Gabriel Ash are regular trade stand exhibitors at all of the RHS shows including Chelsea, Hampton Court, Chatsworth, Malvern and Tatton Park. This year however Gabriel Ash have decide to go one step further and commission their own show garden.
The garden has a lot to live up to (no pressure Lilly) because this year has seen all of the Gabriel Ash Trade stands at each show scoop the coveted 5 star award. The icing on the cake coming at this years Hampton Court where Gabriel Ash won the Best Trade Stand award (see images above - The 5 star award and Mike Hearn receiving the award off the RHS Judging panel - Images courtesy of Gabriel Ash). Gabriel Ash always make an incredible effort to dress their wonderful cedar greenhouses in an inspirational manor so the visiting public can imagine the greenhouse in their own garden.
Tatton Park is the Cheshire based Cedar Greenhouse manufacture's local show and what a wonderful setting to unveil your first Show Garden. They have commissioned garden designer Lilly Gomm following her success at last years show where her garden "A Space to Ruminate" picked up a prestigious Silver Gilt medal and won the 'Peoples Choice' award in her category of "Young Designer ". Lilly approached Gabriel Ash for one of their RHS endorsed cold frames to use in her garden last year. The Company were so pleased with the feedback they decided to commission a garden of their own that is to feature one of their 'flagship' products, the RHS Portico.
I have been delighted to cover the progress of the garden and I took the opportunity to interview Lilly at the RHS Garden Wisley back in May this year. It was a wet and dreary day which completely ruined what I had scripted for the interview, but with a quick re-think on site we managed to escape the elements in one of the Gabriel Ash greenhouse structures that are situated in the gardens. The following video is the result of this interview where Lilly discusses her thoughts and design for the garden.
Next I am producing coverage of the garden construction and I have already undertaken the first weeks filming. I will be releasing a series of video diaries of the show gardens progress. I am sure Mike Hearn's knowledge of dressing the greenhouse will be drawn upon by Lilly for the show garden. The team at Urban Landscape Design have been working incredibly hard on the garden during the first week's filming.
